Plantations - a real trap for the monists

The greens developed a bit of leverage this year in Victoria .They stupidly got public land closed up forever for use in Victoria by capitalizing on the ignorance about the real cost to the community of plantations. I put the point to Jon feine ( ABC radio ) early in 2004 that plantations are generally monocultures . "What are monocultures"  Jon said .
The antithesis of biodiversity -that long term ambition we all support if we ever cut through the crap .
The government aren't even aware of the economic cost of such a quick fix market driven solutions - the end of rainfed dairying? esp if the leverage the govt provided for superfunds drives The RUSH into these" better" forest is also unbalanced and for no long term gain.

The hangers on won't be waxing lyrical about christmas cards made from "plantations" in five years time. Get long term conservation decisions . dial up productionecologists
